HADID Riviera: Gateway to the Highly Anticipated 2022 Yacht Show in Monaco

Planning your trip to the coveted Monaco Yacht Show 2022? HADID Riviera has got you covered! Let's learn more about MYS and how you can plan your trip to Monaco.

One of the world's most delectably decadent places to visit is Monaco. The Principality of Monaco, a microstate on the magnificent French Riviera, is the epitome of luxury and a haven for owners of superyachts and boats. It is the pinnacle of style and class and has long been a favored playground for the wealthy.

Let's take a trip down memory lane as we reflect on the origins of the Monaco Yacht Show as it draws near.

Where Everything Began

For all the yacht lovers out there, Monaco has always been the perfect and picturesque destination. It developed into an important tourist destination more than a century ago. The aristocrats of the early 20th century flocked to the gorgeous blue seas for yachting regattas and luxurious parties.

The Principality of Monaco began to gain recognition as a global sanctuary of elegance and riches around the period of Prince Charles III of Monaco. And the Prince had the foresight to support Monaco's growth as a hub for renowned international regattas that attracted visitors from all over the world.

The first of these regattas was conducted in the bay of Monaco in 1862. It was so successful that Prince Charles III and his son Prince Albert I, popularly known as the "Oceanographer Prince," founded the "Société des Régates" in 1888.

By 1926, Monaco's yacht harbor, Port Hercules, had been built in a deep-water bay at the base of Le Rocher. However, it would take an additional 65 years until the Monaco Yacht Show debuted.

Before the Yacht Club de Monaco was established in 1953 by Prince Rainier (led by Prince Albert II since 1984), there was almost a century's worth of prestigious regattas. The Club has over 2000 members from 66 different countries. The Yacht Club de Monaco's burgee is flown by many of the most famous private ships in the world, attesting to its unique status in the international yachting community.

The first Monaco Yacht Show was held in 1991 and was created by Maurice Cohen, CEO of Media Plus. The rights to the program were later sold to the event management firm IIR by a French businessman in 1994. The British event planner Informa bought IIR in 2005 and, up to this day, still owns the rights to the world's most celebrated boat display event.

The show initially focused on brokers, but as it expanded over time, it now features a broad spectrum of companies in the luxury boat industry. Numerous people, including repair yards, designers and fitters, visit each year.

Yachts were required to be no less than twenty meters long when the competition started. As ever-larger yachts enter the oceans, the minimum needs to consider the craft of a superyacht has changed throughout time. A yacht measuring 47 meters would have been among the top 100 megayachts in the world in 1991.

Expansion and Innovation

The MYS was founded in 1991 and has two main exhibition areas: afloat and on the quays. The industry's most renowned shipbuilders and shipping brokers display 100 superyachts and 50 lavish tenders afloat.

On the quays are 150 hand-selected firms displaying expertise and innovation in yachting, including designers and naval architects, yacht equipment and services suppliers and producers of tenders and marine equipment.

The expo has recently expanded into ultra-high-end areas related to the superyacht lifestyle by featuring producers of luxury goods, automobiles, motorcycles, helicopters and private jets.

A Globally Recognised Event

The MYS is famed worldwide for the extraordinary quality of its superyachts and their remarkable sizes. Mega yachts are over 100 meters and the fleet's average length is 50 meters. Each year, MYS introduces about 40 new products among the approximately 100 vessels on exhibit.

The show, run under the High Patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, has established itself as a landmark occasion that attracts private visitors looking to meet industry professionals and take in the incredible concentration of superyachts available for purchase or charter.

Get ready for an exceptional event in the West Mediterranean as the Monaco Yacht Show upholds its status as a leading yacht show with a fleet of tempting luxury charter yachts and yachts for sale.

Visitors to the show, which annually draws 600 exhibitors, have the opportunity to find everything they need under one roof. This includes more than 120 superyachts on display, stylish tenders and water toy exhibits, the presentation of upscale retail establishments and the Monaco Yacht Show Awards.

The event's organisers anticipate 600 exhibitors, 125 superyachts on display, 30,000 attendees, and approximately 87% foreign guests this year.

MYS 2022: Sailing Around Seduction

The 2022 Monaco Yacht Show will have a "Seducation" theme as part of the event's three-year transformation strategy since the onset of the pandemic. This year's event, which combines the two elements of “education” and “seduction”, has as its primary objective to welcome a new generation of yacht owners and highlight the benefits of yacht ownership and yacht charter.

  • Education: Meeting trade experts in themed exhibition areas
  • Seduction: An initiation to the superyacht lifestyle

The MYS is on track to achieve its objective of assisting the industry in redefining yachting and attracting new customers for superyacht charter by introducing three recent themed exhibitions for 2022: the Sustainability Hub, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub (new format), and the Adventure Area.

This year’s Monaco Yacht Show upends established sailing norms. It transforms the idea of luxury with its epicurean vision and a preference for the freedom to explore novel experiences.
